Birds' Eye View 2

$1,350.00

About the painting

Birds' Eye View 2 was inspired by the bird life that passes over our Kapiti Coast garden each day. Watching flocks moving across the sky, constantly changing shape and direction, I began thinking about the landscape from above and the unseen pathways that connect land, river and sea.

As the painting developed, a suggestion of bird form emerged from the layered surface. Rather than depicting a specific bird, it became a fleeting presence within the landscape – something glimpsed and then lost again. The sweeping dark forms can be read as flight paths, waterways or contours in the land, inviting viewers to find their own interpretation.

What draws people to this painting

  • The suggestion of bird form emerging from abstraction.

  • The freedom to discover new shapes and meanings over time.

  • The sense of movement inspired by birds crossing the Kapiti Coast landscape.

  • The richly layered oil and cold wax surface, which reveals new details when viewed up close.
