Story Behind the Painting
I live in a rural area in New Zealand and there are paddocks, bush and scrubby dune areas next to the beach that form natural habitats for pheasants and quail. The quail are not the same as the little birds I saw in the UK but the variety here have this wonderful little bobbing bit on the top of their heads which waves about as they walk. They are comical little birds that always make me smile. This painting is a nod to them (excuse the pun) and the vibrant cock pheasants that sometimes venture into the garden. They are often difficult to spot and so I have them camouflaged in my paintings showing how they fit into the natural environment. This painting is from me to you from rural New Zealand.
